Pride Month 2021: Love Will Always Win!
June is a month dedicated to celebrating the freedom to love under any conditions and without restrictions while supporting the strong LGBTQ+ community. This celebration of love is open to all, whether you consider yourself a part of the LGBTQ+ or stand as an ally. At Eternal Fleur, we stand with the LGBTQ+ community and are excited to join in celebration with a community that continues to make remarkable changes, progress, educate, and advocate for the right to love freely and shamelessly.
The Significance and History of the Rainbow and Pride Flag
“A Rainbow Flag was a conscious choice, natural and necessary. The rainbow came from earliest recorded history as a symbol of hope.” - Gilbert Baker
Gilbert Baker was an openly gay artist and activist who created the rainbow pride flag as he believed that art has the ability to act as a powerful way to address and advocate for social and political issues. The iconic rainbow pride flag was displayed for the first time in 1978 at San Francisco’s annual Gay Freedom Day Parade and has since been considered the symbol for LGBTQ+ pride and the LQBTQ+ rights movement.
The Colors of the Rainbow Flag
The original rainbow pride flag consisted of eight colored stripes: pink, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue, and purple. Each color holds a significant meaning to the flag and the LQBTQ+ community.
- Pink symbolizes sex.
- Red symbolizes life.
- Orange symbolizes healing.
- Yellow symbolizes the sun.
- Green symbolizes nature.
- Turquoise symbolizes art and magic.
- Blue symbolizes serenity.
- Purple symbolizes the spirit.
